The Pullens | Outer Banks Family Photographer
As a frequent visitor of the Outer Banks in the winter, my husband and I like to pretend we're locals. We straddle this strange line of not being legitimately a local, and yet we're definitely not tourists. Our love is Nags Head in the off season. Fall is my favorite time of year there, but I'm weird and don't mind the winters, either. Spring is full of excitement, with more days of sun than gray, but it also means an end to our visits once summer rolls around.
My obsession with the OBX lead me to follow several Outer Banks photographers, including this guy - Daniel Pullen. Daniel is an award-winning wedding photographer based in Buxton, NC, but you can tell his true passion is surf photography. His Instagram feed during the winter is just filled with amazing shots from the water, as well as a peek into the lives of locals. His Hatteras Fisherman project is real and gritty, showing what it really takes to make your living off the sea.
Last spring, a group of fellow film photographers - we affectionately named ourselves Analogirls - got together in Nags Head for a fun weekend of film and friendship. I approached Daniel about having his family model for us one night, and he graciously accepted. We met at one of my favorite spots near Oregon Inlet and instantly fell in love with his family - especially his wife, Kate. Not only is she stunningly beautiful, but just the warmest and loveliest person you'll meet. We all had a blast talking shop with Daniel and Kate, and taking turns shooting the them.
