I have decided that there are no rules. And since there are no rules, I’m not doing anything wrong by “breaking” them. What I mean to say is that my 10 on 10 for May is not snippets throughout my entire day, but from a few minutes I want to freeze in time. We were in the Outer Banks last week and took the boys to the beach after dinner almost every night, just to play in the sand and walk on the beach. It is so wonderful there in the off-season – no one is on the beach and the sand is cool on your feet. In my haste to get to the beach, I forgot to pack the boys’ sweatshirts, so we got some oversized ones at Walmart to tide us over and I love them. I am sentimental about their upcoming birthday (3rd!) and I find that I’ve been taking a lot more photos of them lately. There were more pictures from our trip, but I choose photos just from one night on the beach as my 10 on 10 because I want to remember everything about this day and how incredibly lucky we are to have these boys and these experiences.

*As a side note, I shot this entire “session” with a Lensbaby, which is a manual lens that gives the faux tilt-shift effect (ie, blurred) these photos have. I love that it’s imperfect, shows the motion and perfectly captures the little moments I wanted to remember.

Garrett | Class of 2012

Garrett is a great guy. Aside from being so very handsome, he is laid back, smart and just a super nice guy, as evidenced by the fact that he went along with all the posing and smiling we did. ;-) He’ll be graduating in June and heading off to the University of Maryland in the fall to study engineering, so you can see I wasn’t lying about the smart part. And as for being laid back & handsome, hopefully these images will prove my point… ;-)

On The Farm

The day I shot April’s 10 on 10, we went to our good friend Dana‘s house. Her family lives on 15 acres, about 45 minutes from Raleigh. We had the best time and I am so excited to share these photos! Among the plethora of plant life, they have 4 dogs (and they were boarding 2 more), a bunch of geese, chickens & two cats. They even have an incubator and Dana showed the boys baby geese & turkeys (who knew baby turkeys were so cute)! With several tractors, mowers and 4-wheelers, chicken coop, play equipment, and several out buildings, my boys were in hog heaven. Starting to think every young boy needs some space… and a dog, or four… ;- ) We could not love Dana and her family more, and are so looking forward to going back to the Farm for another visit, hopefully soon. xoxo!

Nooks & Crannies

I had a blast recently with this young family. Mom and dad were up for pretty much anything, and it took a whole two seconds for little Miss to come out of her shell. ;-) This was one of my favorite kind of sessions – where we get to roam around and find nooks and crannies that are cool. Already looking forward to shooting these stylish folks again! Enjoy. :-)

Christa called me for portraits of her son to mark his 8th birthday. After chatting, she realized they hadn’t had pictures together outside as a family in about 5 years… I had to remedy that! So, check out the Evans family, their fun-loving personality – and all that sass! ;-)

I love the beach in the winter. There’s just a coolness and a quality to the late afternoon light, and to be bundled up and sticking your toes in the sand at the same time… it’s just a contrast I love. These might be some of my favorite images of my kids. What you see here is truly a snapshot of their personalities. So different, but still great friends. Hope that lasts a lifetime.

This was a good day. Our first day of spring break with plans to spend the day at our friend Dana’s house (affectionately referred to as “the farm”) since they have 15 acres and a smattering of geese, chickens, dogs, etc. (more to come, as the farm visit is worthy of it’s own blog post). So this day, I got up, made lunch, got the boys up (more of these in a few days as well), drove down to Dana’s & explored the farm for the majority of the day, came home, took naps, played in the yard, ate dinner, went for a walk, and finished with baths before bed. Henry always wants to be held like a baby after a bath and Matt is currently obsessed with band aids, so I’m happy to have captured the last few images. :-)

Valentines Cuties

I had so much fun being girly with these two cuties! One celebrating her first birthday and Valentine’s Day, and the other hamming it up for the camera. The morning light inside their home was absolutely gorgeous and we got to play around with bows, tutus and balloons… what a treat for this mom of toddler boys. ;-) I so enjoyed spending the morning with these girls and their mama. Hope you enjoy, too.
